Welcome to my “how to” movie section! Here you find moves about, parallel parking, bay parking and much more.

There are more movies to be published. This is just the beginning!

How to steer and grip the steering wheel

In this movie we will learn how to grip the steering wheel for different steering movements – small steering angle movements and large steering angle movements.

How do we handle the steering wheel?

Compare the steering wheel with a clock. Always hold “a quarter to three ‘ position, except when you need to make a large steering angle. Do not change your grip on the steering wheel if you only need to make a minor steering angle.

For a large steering angle to the right you should keep both hands on the steering wheel until your right hand is placed at 6 o’clock. Let your left hand continue the movement while you cross your arms and move your right hand to the 12 position and finalize the steering movement.
To move the steering wheel back to normal position you just reverse your hand movements

When we steer to the right, we use the right side of the steering wheel at 12-3-6
When we steer to the left, we use the left part of the steering wheel at 12-9-6.

Please note that excessive steering when the car stands still could harm the car. However, if you try the different movements a couple of times, no harm will be made.

Steer and play a little bit with the steering wheel and try things out.

Parallel parking, Method 1

To Parallel park is something that many people struggle with. There are however a few tricks that you can use. You can parallel park in a couple of different ways. This is method 1.

The movie instructs you on where to steer to obtain a good position in the parking space. The steering points are only approximate and need sometimes be adjusted to your specific car. Different cars have different turning radii.

The most important pieces of advice for reversing into a parking space are:
1. Keep a close watch on what is going on around your car.
2. Drive slowly (edge) and stop if you feel that something is wrong.

Don’t edge along for more than a couple of minutes at a time. The clutch becomes hot and needs to cool down before you try again.

How to bay park

In this film we give you the best tips and tricks for bay parking.

It is sometimes difficult to judge how to steer into a parking bay. Follow our tips and it will be easy.

Parking, driving into a space, bay parking.

Parking is something that many people struggle with. The “easiest” way, just driving into a space, can sometimes be hard.

The most important pieces of advice for parking are:
1. Keep a close watch on what is going on around your car.
2. Drive slowly (edge) and stop if you feel that something is wrong.

The movie gives you some advice on the different points where you should steer to get a good position for your car in the space. The steering points are only approximate and need sometimes be adjusted to your specific car. Different cars have different turning radii.

Don’t edge along for more than a couple of minutes at a time. The clutch becomes hot and needs to cool down before you try again.

Reversing into parking space, method 2

To park a car by reversing into a space could be tricky. You can do it in a couple of different ways. This is method 2 and it´s easy.

The movie instructs you on where to steer to obtain a good position in the space when you park. The steering points are only approximate and need sometimes be adjusted to your specific car. Different cars have different turning radii.

The most important pieces of advice for reversing into a space when you park are:

Reverse around a corner

To reverse around a corner is something that some people avoid since they think it is too difficult. If you follow the instructions in this movie you will learn how to do it without any problems.

Important when you reverse a car:
1. Keep a close watch on what is going on around your car.
2. Drive slowly (edge) and stop if you feel that something is wrong.

Don’t edge along for more than a couple of minutes at a time. The clutch becomes hot and needs to cool down before you try again.

How to start a car

To start a car is easy!

Some advice…

Try to fix the heel of the clutch foot (the left foot) tight o the floor when you reach the clutch biting point. In this way the foot is supported by the floor and it is easier to ”fine tune” the clutch bite. If you find it hard to make smooth starts it is a good idea to practice to edge along a couple of times.

In this way you get a better feeling for where the biting point is and as a result your starts become smoother.
Don’t edge along for more than a couple of minutes at a time. The clutch becomes hot and needs to cool down before you try again.

On some cars you have to gently press the accelerator when the clutch is in the biting point to aviod stalling the engine.

How to shift up to a higher gear on a manual car

The movie shows how you shift from first to second gear. To shift up to third, fourth gear etc follow the same procedure.

Hillstart using foot brake (on a manual car)

Do not practise hillstart too long!

Only practise hillstart a few minutes and then drive a bit to let clutch cool down. The clutch easily gets hot which could damage it.

Try to keep the heel of the clutch foot (the left foot) fixed to the floor once you found the clutch biting point.
In this way the foot gets a steady support and it becomes easier to ”fine tune” the clutch bite.

The clutch on a manual car

Even if you are not interested in what is going under the hood of your car it is good to understand how the clutch works with cars with manual gear.

The movie shows the clutch mechanism in a simplified way. You will also learn about the main parts of the clutch and how they help transfer the power from the engine to the car wheels.

Good luck with your driving licence! 🙂
